Mild steel
Will turn an all-over natural brown
Finishes Explained
Mild steel uncoated:
This will turn into a lovely natural rust colour if left outside. The most frequent question I am asked is “will it rust away?”. I believe that the sculptures will remain as they are for at least 20yrs without ‘holing’. If you want to keep the rusty look fresh you can coat it with oil every year or two. Please ask for details.
Nb. Some sculptures which are labelled as mild steel on the website might appear shiny if they have been photographed when newly made. They do not adopt the rusty patina until they come into contact with wet or damp.
Galvanised:
This is a zinc -dipped finish which will preserve the piece indefinitely so that it doesn’t rust. The finish is a shiny silver.
Galvanised with T-wash:
As above but with a T-wash which will tone down the shine to leave a matt, silver/grey finish
Powder coating:
This process is usually under taken as a further finishing stage after galvanising. It allows clients to choose the finished colour of the piece. The powder-coating is a magnetic process and leave a lovely, strong and enduring paint-finish in your chosen colour.
Most pieces can be made to suit your preference of finish from above.
Presentations & Displays
Most pieces come with a stand of some sort and this is included in the price quoted.
Stands might be a natural piece of wood or a traditional garden fork or spade for the owls or a watering can for the robins. Pieces can be moved from one display stand to another or you can supply your own and I will mount your sculpture – if you have a preference please ask.
Sizing:
All sizing indicated is in inches and is approximate. This is because each sculpture is individually hand crafted and will vary from piece to piece.
Sizes do not include presentation stands, where they are not integral, as these are different for every piece.
